First week is officially over!

  • Today I worked from home, and it was a lot more peaceful, less overwhelming, etc. I think it’s a matter of finding a balance between going in and staying home.
  • I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I attended the python skills workshop and realized that coding/setting up projects/etc. while explaining things to others is a very hard skill to develop. I should do it more.
  • I decided randomly to create a little game for the Mirco engine. I had an idea of a “crack the lock” game where you’re given a target and you need to open up the lock! Ran into some issues with keypress stuff, where key presses are a bit too sensitive
  • Had a coffee chat with a fellow RCer who shared a similar professional path

General thoughts:

  • What makes recurse really nice is the fact that there’s no judgement. I can ask the stupidest questions (or the smartest ones), and it won’t reflect on my character! That’s something that weighs on my mind a lot when I’m at work or working with others.
  • I think I’m getting better at this lack of expectations thing. I also see how it’s so beneficial for learning. I’m free to explore rabbit holes because I don’t have anything specific I need to deliver or do in some time-sensitive fashion.
  • “Be kind, instead of just being nice”: really like this, the example given was: you can choose to withhold comments on a merge request to be nice, or you can raise issues in a respectful way, conducive to learning to be kind.
