Random note about my steam deck because I’m using it right now and I think I did a good job of configuring it
- Bought the 64 gb steam deck and installed a 512 SD card in it
- Eventually bought a 256 gb nvme ssd, and replaced the 64 gb internal nvme
- partitioned the 256 gb nvme ssd in basically half
- ~130 GB is an NTFS partition for windows
- remainder is the partition for steam OS
- Installed Refind to allow booting into either windows or steamos at startup
Why the hassle?
- I’ve used a windows laptop for most of my life, and having access to it is really useful to me. I have a desktop that I can’t bring everywhere, so the steam deck has replaced my old XPS 15.
- Compatibility for some things are better on windows over linux (games, mouse software, etc.)
- I keep the OS’s on the internal nvme as much as possible because this keeps everything snappy. Games on windows are also on the NVME.
- By leaving a majority of storage for Steam OS, I’m still inclined to use it more than not. I bought this to be a portable device, not another windows machine!
